My daughter Alyssa just turned 19 this summer and is suffering from a second major lups flareup. This would be her second year at college; however, because she needs dialysis three days a week-returning to school right now is improbable. Alyssa was first diagnosed during her junior year in high school. One day after picking her up she complained of chest pains and asked me to take her to the doctor. We went to the ER and within several our the report was that she was in acute organ failure: heart, lungs and kidneys. She was quickly transferred to the main hospital in CO where she underwent chemo and a host of other treatments.
This last flareup from systemic lupus occurred after we returned from a road trip visiting my family. She was complaining of chest pains so when I took her to the ER- I mentioned to the admission that she has lupus. And within several hours the ER doctor said that she would be admitted because her kidneys were failing. It's extremely hard for her going through what lupus does to a body and it is harder still to watch from the sidelines and not be able to do anything other than be there. It was most difficult for my young son to hear her cry out in pain from having a kidney biospy and the medical staff decided not to give her anymore pain meds. He became almost unconsoliable. I had to take him home and leave her at the hospital alone. I felt horrible.
I believe that God has a hand in all that we go through and right now it is just my desire and prayer that God would give her a miracle and heal her completely.
